Text Messaging Bill Goes To The House

Published under News

UTAH STATE CAPITOL – A bill making it a misdemeanor offense to e-mail or send text messages while driving is one step closer to becoming a law. The Senate passed Senate Bill 149 by a vote of 25-1 Wednesday, sending it on to the House. Penalties for offenses under this bill would be similar to those for driving under the influence. Those who were charged repeatedly or were shown to have been at fault for serious accidents could face felony charges.

The bill is sponsored by Senator Lyle Hillyard of Logan.

FOX 13’s Arikka Von has more on the story.
